We are extremely fortunate to live on the Wasatch Front. Why, exactly? Because we are five minutes away from hiking, camping, snowshoeing, skiing, and snowboarding. One of my absolute favorite hikes is known locally as Elephant Rock. It is located in Mueller Park Canyon, which may be the official trail name, I’ve never been sure. It’s called Elephant Rock because from a distance it vaguely… sort of… looks like an elephant’s head. At least, that’s what I say.

It’s a three- to four-hour roundtrip hike to the rock and down. It’s beautiful at any time of year, but my favorite time is during autumn. For my 18th birthday, some family and friends took a hike with me up the trail. We passed many other hikers and mountain bikers with children and dogs. The trail is relatively easy, and if you get too tired, it’s all downhill going back! The view from the top is amazing though!

At the bottom of the trail, there are picnic areas you can use for a small fee, and you can also play in the stream if the weather is too hot. Whether you like hiking, trail running, or mountain biking, this trail is great for everyone! Remember to bring water, some snacks, and good shoes.
