Remember how I said Colton wasn’t good at surprising me? One day he called while I was at school and asked if I had anything planned for a certain day and a certain time. I was busy so I absentmindedly said no and that was the end of the conversation. Then later that day, he told me that I couldn’t check the mail for the next few days. I immediately thought that we were getting Wicked tickets in the mail, because the Broadway tour was in town and I secretly really wanted to go. (Maybe not so secretly, because he obviously knew I wanted to go.) I don’t know why I thought of the tickets so fast, I just did, and this always seems to happen when he’s trying to surprise me. So he figured out that I knew, and I told him next time he just shouldn’t say anything because any hint is basically revealing the thing, then we spent the next two weeks SUPER excited for the play at Capitol Theater… Maybe me more than him.

I’ve grown up knowing all the songs from Wicked, but I never looked up the story or read anything about it. I had my own version of what the story was about based on the song lyrics, and it was basically nothing like the actual play. I figured Glinda and Elphaba were friends, but I didn’t know that Elphaba was good the whole time. And I didn’t know there was a love story in it, which made it even better. I won’t spoil it for anyone who hasn’t seen the play or read the book, but the ending was fantastic, if maybe a little sad still. I LOVED the play. I felt like our singers were even better than the original Broadway cast (Elphaba was played by Christine Dwyer and Glinda was played by ).  Now I have the book in our library, waiting to be read.

The beautiful Capitol Theater, unfortunately with construction in front of it. But a pretty building nontheless!

I love plays, and I love that Colton loves plays, because he doesn’t like going to movies so much. This is the second Broadway play we’ve been to, the first being The Lion King. I wish I was as talented as all the singers. If you ever get the chance to see Wicked, DO IT! You won’t regret it, and you’ll be singing the songs for days and days.Wicked3 Wicked4 Wicked5
