So… How are everyone’s goals going so far? Did you trash them and think you can’t do this anymore? Did you forget you even made any? I’ve definitely been guilty of that before. In fact the last few years I didn’t even make any goals because I knew I wouldn’t keep them and why bother just disappointing myself? Instead I made random goals during the year that didn’t have a specific yearly timeline and it was fun to see how much I would progress in my fitness or healthy eating or cleaning the house when I stopped putting pressure on myself. It helped me to remember that I’m perfectly capable of making and achieving goals if I care enough.

So this year I decided to make actual New Year’s resolutions again, and see how well they would go. But I came up with a system (that literally everyone uses and writes about, I just never have before) that has helped me to keep up with my goals better than in the past.

First I brainstormed. What did I want to achieve this year? What was most important? What would I actually spend time on? I wrote down health and fitness goals, creativity goals, and career goals.

Then I wrote a couple steps to achieve each one. One of my goals is to do seven pull-ups this year. So one of those steps is to lift three times a week to help me achieve that goal. Another step was to create a weekly schedule to help me find times to exercise.

I ended up creating a weekly schedule for all of my goals. I definitely don’t do all of them every week, but having it written down, hanging in my closet so I can see every day has been really helpful. This is the most I’ve ever worked toward achieving my goals, and instead of feeling discouraged I get excited everytime I see my weekly schedule.

Among my other goals was eating out less (we eat about 10 times a month between the two of us, including our lunches), writing in my journal more, getting more sleep, and running more (I may run another 10k this year).

So, how to achieve New Year’s Resolutions, or any goal.

  1. Brainstorm – make a list of everything you might want to do.
  2. Prioritize which ones you feel are most important/which ones you’re most excited about.
  3. Write 2-3 steps per goal on how to achieve it.
  4. Create a weekly calendar with tasks to help you achieve your goals and hang it somewhere you will see everyday.

There you go! Simple ways to help you be better in whatever you’re trying to do! Let me know what some of your goals are this year!

And here’s some more photos of Teddy because I didn’t take any other photos for this post. 😊
