I suppose since my blog is entitled Bookshelves and Garden Paths I could post about the books I read. I’ve loved reading ever since second grade when I jumped from Reader Rabbit books to chapter books and suddenly millions of worlds opened up to me. I truly don’t understand how people don’t like reading, I’m just convinced they haven’t found the right genre or story yet.
I use Goodreads to track my books. It’s a free and simple website/app where you can see what others are reading, rate books, and follow authors and what they’re reading or writing. You can also make a list of to-read books that you’ll never lose. My favorite is the reading challenge. You can set a challenge for yourself on how many books you want to read this year and it tracks your progress through the year. This year my goal is to read 33, I think my goal last year was 25 and I read 30. I’m on Goodreads as Miara Farnsworth, come find me!
My first book of the year was Wuthering Heights. I didn’t read it in high school and I’m trying to work my way through some classics. I was afraid this book would be boring and slow and I would struggle through it. It was the complete opposite. After the first chapter I was pulled into Bronte’s world of gloomy heathered slopes and crazy-as-hell characters. Seriously, they’re all insane. Multiple times while reading I’d turn to Colton and exclaim, “I hate all of these characters!! They’re crazy!” But that’s why I couldn’t stop reading it. It was like an 18th century soap opera/reality show and you just keep wondering who’s going to be eliminated next. Like this is supposed to be some great love story but the entire time I’m like, “Who would love any of these people?!”
Intrigued yet? If you’re looking for a classic with some craziness definitely pick up Withering Heights!
